How much rain and snow actually fell on the East Coast during the most recent storm?
Well, if it were all melted, it would fill approximately 12 million Olympic pools.
That’s the calculation of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientist Greg Fall. Fall says adding that amount of water to Lake Superior would increase the lake’s depth by 14 inches.
Fall calculated the liquid volume of the snow and rain that fell on 10 states and D.C. from Friday through Sunday.
That figure is nearly 30 billion cubic meters of water. He says the amount could also fill about 30,000 Empire State buildings.
